Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club
Clubhouse Updates
Just prior to COVID, our member Marc Clavin suggested to the Committee that it was time to begin a discussion regarding rebuilding our clubrooms.
While the existing building has served us well over the past 20 years, it is nearing the end of its life, and the salt air and sea winds have taken their toll.
The building is starting to deteriorate, and we’re outgrowing it as the Club goes from strength to strength. Space is limited, and the inconvenience of storing emergency equipment offsite sadly impedes our ability to respond quickly in an emergency.
Members have also told us they would like to see a new, attractive expanded building offering better amenities and greater social possibilities.
Marc introduced the Beck family, local benefactors, to the Club, who have very generously funded initial consultancy work that enabled us to arrive at a position where a new Clubhouse can be a reality. This initial work has included a successful funding application from the State Govt for $3.5M and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council for $1M towards the new Clubhouse.
We formed a Building Committee and have had countless meetings over the last couple of years despite the challenges of COVID. While much work is already well advanced with the many statutory authorities, we’d really like your thoughts on what we might have missed and what else we should consider.
If you would like to give feedback on design or would be keen to get involved in the project, please tell us your thoughts.
